About

Hi! I’m Carl, a PhD candidate in Bioinformatics at the Pennsylvania State University (PSU). I’m very luckily advised by Prof. Mingfu Shao. Before my PhD study, I obtained my BS in Cell & Molecular Biology with First Class Honours from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

My research interest is developing algorithms and methodologies for assembly problems and transcriptome research, including (allele-specific) transcript assembly, transcriptome annotation, synthetic long reads, etc.

News

[Sep 2024] I traveled to and presented my proceeding talk “Anchorage” at WABI’24 in London. I was awarded the Graduate Travel Award from the Huck Institutes to support my travel.

[Aug 2024] I attended and moderated a session at the Workshop on Emerging Methods for Sequence Analysis (WEMSA2024) at Penn State. I also presented a poster.

[Jul 2024] I traveled to and presented a poster “Anchorage Accurately Assembles Anchor-flanked Synthetic Long Reads” at ISMB 2024 in Montreal.

[Jul 2024] My co-authored work “TERRACE”, previously accepted to RECOMB 2024, has now been accepted to Genome Research.

[Jun 2024] My first-author work, on an assembler for anchor-enabled synthetic long reads data (“Anchorage accurately assembles anchor-flanked synthetic long reads”), has been accepted to WABI 2024.

[Dec 2023] My co-authored work, on a new assembler for circular RNAs (“Accurate assembly of circular RNAs with TERRACE”), has been accepted to RECOMB 2024.
